To install Services for Macintosh on a Windows NT Server, go into Control Panel, double-click the Network icon, and select the Services tab. Click Add, select Services for Macintosh, and then click OK. This loads the Services for Macintosh and brings up the configuration screen. This screen lets you choose which Windows NT-supported NIC card is being used to communicate with the Macintosh Zones being used. The Routing tab allows you to enable AppleTalk routing as shown in Figure 9.8.

Figure 9.8.  Routing is enabled by the Services for Macintosh setup Routing tab.

After you install Services for Macintosh, a MacFile menu is added to the Server Manager under common administrative tools on the Windows NT Server Start menu options. You can use the MacFile menu to create Macintosh accessible volumes that can also be shared to allow MS-DOS or Windows clients to access files as demonstrated in Figure 9.9.

Services for Macintosh automatically sets up several fine features:

AppleTalk protocol, which is configured via the Network applet in the Control Panel.
File Services for Macintosh (MacFile), used to manage folders, files, and volumes for Macintosh.
Print Services for Macintosh that enables Windows, MS-DOS, or Macintosh clients to send print jobs to either AppleTalk- or non-AppleTalk–based printers.
Supports Ethernet, LocalTalk, Token-Ring and Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI).
